A cowardly Keir Starmer abandons Rosie Duffield and tells women our rights don't matter to him.
#OnlyWomenHaveACervix
Keir Starmer is a coward.
When Andrew Marr asked him today if it is “transphobic” to say only women have a cervix, he replied, “It shouldn’t be said. It is not right.”
Set aside biological reality for the moment, Starmer’s response was a deliberate signal to Rosie Duffield MP that he had abandoned her to the mob.
Rosie had previously tweeted that only women have a cervix which led to her being attacked by trans activists. And she is unable to attend Labour’s conference this week because of fears for her personal safety.
Starmer’s response to Andrew Marr this morning will make Rosie’s position worse.
And he couldn’t muster up enough political nous to assert that women should be able to talk about their biological reality without fear of retribution. Instead he mumbled something about trans rights.
That’s not leadership. That’s cowardice.
Political leadership is a tough job. It requires charisma, nerves of steel and self-confidence. And for a Labour leader, it must be rooted in a set of agreed principles, such as women’s sex-based rights.
Sadly, Keir Starmer did not display any of those qualities today.
