When Lucy Hunter Blackburn and I were almost finished editing The Women Who Wouldn’t Wheesht, we realised we wanted to keep working together on projects to amplify women’s voices. But what to do?
After throwing around a few ideas we settled on a newsletter, written by women for women. A place where women could tell their stories - about the reality of their lives, the challenges as well as the good times. We were inspired by the second-wave feminists who produced newsletters on a shoestring, publications such as MSprint and of course the mother of all women’s magazines Spare Rib. But as this is 2025 not 1978 we decided to use Substack as the platform for our new venture.
So, on 30 May, exactly a year after The Women Who Wouldn’t Wheesht was published, we launched The Frontline, you can find it HERE
There is no paywall, as we want ALL women to be able to read it. However we do welcome subscriptions as they allow us to keep the newsletter free and pay our writers.
There are regular features such as Woman of the Week by the fantastic
and Power and Policy, where Lucy and I keep an eye on the issues that matter to women. We have already featured one very well known writer - - as well as women who have never written for publication before. Please get in touch if you are interested in making a contribution. The Frontline is published once a fortnight at midday on Friday. The next issue is due on 4 July, and yes, it will have an American flavour to it. The fantastic
has written a piece for us. And you can find the first three editions HERE.STOP PRESS: THE WOMEN WHO WOULDN’T WHEESHT IS 99P ON KINDLE UNTIL 30 JUNE
