It appears the apparently mis-named STUC "women's" committee has also taken upon itself the rewriting of the equality act to state something that it does not actually say.

If they only knew the struggles we had tae keep the Woman's Committee and Conference back in the late 70s and early 80s. They show nae solidarity with the sisters. Indeed some get offended if ye mention the word sister..🙄

It's not a surprise that this motion was rejected given the public support by the STUC for self-id, but it still hits you in the gut. Shocking and indefensible.

Totally outrageous. How DARE they call themselves a WOMEN'S committee when they betray women like this by standing up for the " feelings " of trans identifying males instead !! Disgraceful as well as dishonest.

I think it's time for all women to leave their so-called trade [aka trans] union. Without women's membership subs these unions would be worthless.

We have to stay and fight. Unions do great work but have taken a wrong turn on this issue.

Good, Paisley sisters. Women like these are why I'm in the Trade Union movement.

I was there and my union voted to support the motion. It was like a Stonewall tea party. I forgot I was at a Women's STUC meeting although to be fair some supported the motion. No honest debate, the usual mantra - transwomen are women and then the "tone" of the speakers wasn't right - no comment about the facts presented, just the tone. A whole morning talking about male violence against women but when it comes to women's services, transwomen are women even though many traumatised women don't view them as such. The usual trope about "intersectional feminism" which these days seems to centre the bodies with penises and white academic females worrying about said males and childcare costs. Definitely it doesn't centre rape survivors whose rapists can be documented as women, women needing refuge, women imprisoned beside violent males, women whose religion prevents them from mixing with males, migrant women who don't understand Newspeak, women in prostitution, women needing rape examinations, women on psychiatric wards, poor women needing women's aid, women needing smear tests, women in police custody who can be searched by males who identify as women. Most women agree these places should be single sex. If my union didn't support it I would have cancelled my membership. It was actually cringy to watch what should be strong union women giving away our rights to males and putting their sisters down for requesting single-sex services. I wonder how these women got to the point that their feminism involves fitting in and centering males rather than holding up their sisters.

As a member of TSSA I would like to know if my union had any involvement in this. Can anyone tell me?
