For those of us strongly supportive of sex reality, anxious about violence against women and girls and concerned about child protection, it is indeed galling that Trump appears to be on the right side with this, if nothing else. However, I think it’s useful to realise that Trump doesn’t care a tiny strand of bouffant orange hair about this issue - he and his advisers know it was a vote winner. That’s the only reason for his actions.
I doubt that ( votes) was the only reason for Trump to proclaim this EO. I’m pretty sure he agrees with this ..he’s not a complete idiot! and of course, it’s ridiculous that any president has to have an EO on something that is such a basic fact. Next we’ll have to have a proclamation stating that water is wet.
I’m not a Trump supporter , but give him credit for this and also for stopping the wind farms that are destroying endangered whales. I’ll take anything positive that he does.
Biden was terrible on the trans issue and did a lot of harm to women as would Kamala have done .Women were thrown under the bus by that administration and that was one reason a lot of women didn’t vote for Democrats.
I’m sure you found this hard to write Susan. I know I can barely believe that the person doing the most to protect the rights and safety of women and girls would be Donald Trump. I really don’t care if he’s only doing it for political reason, I just care that he’s doing it at all. The left have no idea just how out of touch they are with most of the 51% of voters who are women plus the many men who also support them.
I agree! If Trump says the right thing and is getting rid of the scourge of trans and DEI, I support him on those issues, which I believe are important not only for women but for society.Trans is one of the worst ideologies ever and has done so much harm to women ,children and others , that I think it must be rooted out like a bad virus .
It's hard to believe that Trump, as a serial abuser of women charged with sexual assault, gives a damn about the interests of women. He only cares about the votes needed to make him (again) one of the most powerful men in the world. But his hypocrisy is to our gain here.
"Kamala is for they/them, President Trump is for you" is indeed a brilliant campaign slogan, on every level... As it doesn't sound nearly as good phrased "Vice- President Harris is for they/them, Donald is for you".
Simultaneously with dissing gender ideology, the writers of this inspired slogan managed to demean a high ranking woman by stripping her of any title, while awarding an expired but aspirational title to a man.
I don't know if I should be surprised or not, but I do have moments where I'm in complete disbelief that the Centre and Left-of-Centre have left a huge space for the Right to portray themselves as the supporters and defenders of women's rights, particularly when I think very few of the right's views are actually genuine. In Scotland, Labour in particular got their approach to the GRA completely wrong.
Despite the public debate that's taken place particularly in the last few years, there's been a complete lack of engagement with the actual arguments from so many on the Left. I think it's a great example of what's wrong with so much of modern day political debate - so many politicians and campaigners base their support on issues on how they think it makes them look, rather than what actually makes sense and works. Supporting 'trans rights' makes them look 'nice, kind, caring, compassionate, and progressive', and yet when you get into the more detailed practicalities and arguments, they struggle to explain their position.
There are three executive orders (EO’s) that Trump has signed that are worthy of support by everyone across the moderate political spectrum
The first of these EO’s recognizes that open borders are politically unacceptable and that the age of mass migration is over. Importing millions of people who will work for next to nothing just to be here destroys the wages of working class Americans and drives up housing costs when we can't house our own citizens. People cannot overpopulate their home country and just expect to move to greener pastures. There are no more green pastures. They need to voluntarily reduce their own country's population to an environmentally sustainable level, stay home and work there to improve their living conditions.
His second important EO addresses the insanity of gender identity which denies the reality of human sexuality and results in men invading women’s sports, restrooms, locker rooms and prisons. Women need and are entitled to privacy from men. Even more diabolical is the mutilation of innocent children (many who would grow up gay) in pursuit of the impossible because you can’t change your birth sex.
Finally his EO that corrects the craziness of DEI which discriminates against whites, Asians and men in attempting to cure past discrimination against others is absolutely the correct approach. Who could believe that creating a new privileged class and a new discriminated against class would provide a solution to the problem? Not to mention that it’s clearly unconstitutional.
It would well serve both Democrats and independents to get behind these changes even as they choose to vigorously oppose other aspects of his agenda.
I don’t really care why Trump signed the EOs, I care that he did. He’s obviously no feminist, but what happened to the Democrats who were supposed to be on the side of women? Biden ignored all the thousands of comments against his administration’s policies on women’s sports and Harris toed the party line. I voted for her, but only because I live in a blue state. If I’d lived in Pennsylvania, the state to which my Scottish ancestors immigrated, it’d have been a different story.
Whatever his motives were it is a step in the right direction. Sadly in the rest of the Western Hemisphere the pro-trans insanity keeps rolling on. Women and children are constantly being thrown under the bus in the name of Progression
I have just received an invitation from the local school to attend a meeting on Gender Diversity. ( Hosted by a Trans charity , no less) The cowards won't even convene at the school Are they worried about potential resistance?
I’m afraid the dumb effers are going to double down and play it tragic. The “gender equity” show at the recent national party conference just made me roll my eyes.
Somebody needs to grab hold of the bridle and start dealing with the actual situation that includes Medicaid not covering “gender-affirming care” and kids freaking out high on gendercide among themselves.
In the name of Leslie Jordan’s sissy youth and the prime of Amy Ray, I call time out and peace as we address this global public health concern.

I agree with you about Biden’s shameful record on this issue.

So what's new in the same old world of sexism.

You are so good when you cover this subject. Edinburgh, all Scotland, needs you to keep on

Gender ideology only shows how females are privileged. Its to feminism what feminism is to machismo...

The failure of the (once-progressive) Left is what drives people into the arms of right-wing populists like Trump. I made a similar point to my local council about the rash of Progress Prid flags around the town and the rest of the country. https://roadlesstraveller.substack.com/p/progress-pride-flag-and-council-planning
